Magnus Carlsen enters as the clear favorite in the six-player double round-robin, bolstered by his 2840 rating, seven prior Norway Chess titles, and home-soil advantage in the new Oslo venue. The field features elite classical competition from world champion Gukesh Dommaraju, Alireza Firouzja, Vincent Keymer, Praggnanandhaa Rameshbabu, and Wesley So, all rated above 2750, with recent lineup finalization in February adding So as the last participant. Traders assign Carlsen roughly two-thirds implied probability due to his consistent edge in long classical formats and historical dominance here, while the remaining contenders split the balance based on their current form, head-to-head records, and potential for Armageddon tiebreak upsets in a tightly contested event starting late May.
