Recent Léger and Synopsis polling shows the Parti Québécois leading province-wide at roughly 30 percent ahead of the October 5 election, leaving the Coalition Avenir Québec and Parti Libéral du Québec essentially tied near 23 percent for second. Regional fragmentation sustains the deadlock: Liberals dominate the Island of Montreal while the CAQ and PQ compete closely in Quebec City, the 450 suburbs, and francophone ridings outside the metropolis. Voter consolidation away from Québec Solidaire has boosted both the CAQ and Conservatives without yet breaking the CAQ–PLQ tie. With the campaign just underway after dissolution on August 27, second-choice preferences remain fluid and turnout patterns in battleground ridings will determine which party finishes ahead of the other.
