Lorenzo Sonego holds a clear ranking edge at No. 66 over Edas Butvilas at No. 256 entering their first-round Geneva Open matchup on outdoor red clay, yet the Italian veteran has struggled since returning from an extended injury layoff, posting just three wins in his last nine matches with limited success on the surface. The 21-year-old Lithuanian has built positive momentum through consistent Challenger results and a stronger clay-court record this season, positioning the encounter as a test of experience against current form. With no head-to-head history and both seeking ranking points ahead of Roland Garros, Sonego's baseline game and serve will face Butvilas's aggressive approach under forecast showers that could influence play.
