The 22-player field in Paris featured a double-elimination group stage followed by playoffs at 10+0 time control, with Carlsen advancing through quarterfinal and semifinal matches while demonstrating superior endgame technique and consistency against elite competition including Hikaru Nakamura and Alireza Firouzja. As the top-ranked player with extensive Champions Chess Tour experience and recent title defenses, trader consensus reflects his established edge in rapid formats and head-to-head results. An improbable multi-game comeback by Lazavik remains the only realistic path to altering the outcome before resolution.
