Regional elections scheduled for September 13, 2026, will determine the next chair of Region Gotland's executive board through majority support in the regional council. Incumbent Meit Fohlin of the Social Democrats currently holds the post alongside a coalition, while Rolf Öström of the Moderates serves as first vice chair and leads opposition efforts on issues including budget management and education. The tight market pricing reflects uncertainty over final seat distribution and potential post-election coalition negotiations between the two largest parties. Lower-priced alternatives such as Mariette Nicander, Sara Unger, and Saga Carlgren remain possible only under specific alliance shifts or internal party changes. Recent budget discussions and local policy debates have not yet produced decisive momentum for any single contender ahead of voting.
