Åsa Johansson holds a commanding position as the incumbent chair of Region Värmland’s regional board, with traders assigning her a 96.8% implied probability of continuing in the role after the September 2026 regional elections. Her party, Socialdemokraterna, leads the current governing arrangement, and recent official updates show her actively signing cooperation agreements with the county administrative board while overseeing improved financial forecasts and ongoing policy work on regional development and equality. New regional council members take office in November 2026, after which the fullmäktige will formally elect the board chair through established nomination and majority procedures. Low probabilities for alternatives such as Elisabeth Björk, Fredrik Larsson, and Erik Evestam align with limited reported momentum for leadership changes. A shift in post-election coalition negotiations or a significant decline in Socialdemokraterna’s seat share could still open pathways for another candidate, though no such developments have materialized in the immediate aftermath of the vote.
