**South Korea’s 2026 annual CPI inflation market reflects closely contested trader views around the Bank of Korea’s 2.7% forecast, with the three leading buckets (3.0%+, 2.7–2.9%, and 2.4–2.6%) each commanding roughly 28–31% implied probability.** Recent August data showed headline inflation at 3.1% year-over-year and core (excluding food and energy) accelerating to 3.4%, the fastest pace since 2023, driven by elevated oil prices amid Middle East tensions, a weaker won, and pass-through of prior cost shocks. Strong semiconductor-led growth, now projected at 3.3% for the year, is supporting demand-side pressures and wage gains that could sustain underlying inflation. The BOK’s back-to-back rate hikes to 3.00% and its September Monetary Policy Report underscore expectations that inflation will remain above the 2% target for an extended period, though September prints may ease on base effects. Key swing factors for year-end resolution include oil price trajectories, the pace of further monetary tightening, and the extent of consumption recovery spillovers into services prices.
