This market will resolve to "Yes" if Clarence Thomas announces that he will retire from his position as a Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States by the specified date at 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". The announced timing of his retirement may be immediate, at the end of the current Supreme Court term, or at any point in the future. Any qualifying announcement from Thomas will count for a "Yes" resolution, regardless of whether the announced retirement goes into effect. The resolution source for this market will be official announcements from Thomas or one of his official representatives.Justice Clarence Thomas, the Supreme Court’s longest-serving member at age 78, has provided no public or private signals of plans to retire, with sources confirming in April 2026 that he does not intend to step down this year or soon after. Thomas has expressed interest in serving into the 2030s, consistent with his tenure since 1991 and pursuit of the longest-service record in 2028. President Trump has publicly encouraged both Thomas and Justice Samuel Alito to remain rather than create vacancies ahead of the November 2026 midterms, when Senate control could affect confirmation dynamics. Alito reinforced this stance in an August 2026 interview, stating he plans to serve at least another term. Absent health developments, ethical issues, or institutional pressures, trader consensus reflects low near-term probabilities, with greater uncertainty over longer windows tied to age and historical patterns for Article III judges.
