Persistent weak domestic demand, subdued consumer spending, and a struggling property sector continue to anchor expectations for China's 2026 annual CPI inflation in the 0.6-1.0% range. Recent July data showed the headline rate easing to a six-month low of 0.5% year-over-year, driven by declining food prices including pork amid ample supply and softer non-food components as global energy costs retreated following earlier Middle East disruptions. Core inflation held near 0.9%, while producer prices also moderated. Official forecasts and analyst projections from bodies such as the ADB and BBVA cluster around 1.0-1.2% for the full year, reflecting limited pass-through from supply-side pressures and the absence of aggressive demand-side stimulus. These trends reinforce trader consensus around subdued outcomes through year-end.
