Lionel Messi's strong intent to feature for Argentina at the 2026 World Cup, backed by recent comments from the player and coach Lionel Scaloni, underpins the market's overwhelming 97.5% implied probability for a "Yes" outcome. At age 38 turning 39 during the tournament, Messi has repeatedly signaled motivation to defend the 2022 title as a likely farewell, with Scaloni emphasizing that the forward decides his own timeline and faces no fixed retirement date. Fitness assessments and squad inclusion remain the key variables, though his club form with Inter Miami and historical precedent of playing through qualifiers reinforce trader confidence. Realistic upset risks include a late injury or unforeseen physical decline, yet these appear remote given the current momentum and Argentina's reliance on their captain.
