**Recent global seismicity shows a cluster of major events just before the market window opened, with no confirmed M6.5+ quakes yet in the August 17–23 period.** On August 14–15, a 7.7-magnitude event struck near Ende, Indonesia, followed within hours by a 6.9-magnitude quake farther north in the same region, per USGS data. These occurred along the tectonically active Sunda subduction zone and contributed to the elevated 2026 totals (already 86 M6+ events by mid-August). The current quiet stretch aligns with typical post-mainshock lulls and the global average rate of roughly one M6.5+ event per week. USGS monitoring through August 18 shows no new events meeting the threshold, keeping zero-event outcomes as the market leader at 53.5% implied probability. Key variables for the remainder of the week include aftershock potential in Indonesia, ongoing subduction-zone activity in the Pacific Ring of Fire, and any new USGS or regional network detections that could shift counts before resolution. Traders are pricing in low-to-moderate likelihood of one additional event (30%) given the recent clustering and absence of fresh alerts.

The resolution source for this market is the United States Geological Survey (USGS) Earthquake Hazards Program, with the minimum magnitude set to 6.5 and the date parameters set to the relevant dates for this market's timeframe (https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/search/).
If an earthquake of substantial size has occurred within this market's timeframe but not yet appeared on the resolution source, this market may remain open until August 25, 2026, 11:59 PM ET, or until the earthquake in question otherwise appears on the resolution source. If such an earthquake has not appeared on the resolution source by that date, another credible resolution source will be used.
This market may not resolve until the timeframe of this market has concluded. If a qualifying earthquake has been recorded on the final day, this market may remain open for 24 hours to allow for revisions to the recorded magnitude, or 48 hours if the prior paragraph applies. After 24 hours, this market will resolve according to the latest provided data.
