Robert Abela maintains a commanding lead as the frontrunner for Malta's next prime minister due to his role as incumbent Labour Party leader ahead of the May 30 general election. The party, which has governed since 2013, benefits from established parliamentary majorities and recent campaign momentum, including the launch of its "Int Malta" manifesto focused on economic stability amid regional energy pressures. Traders reflect this continuity through elevated probabilities for Abela, consistent with historical patterns of incumbent re-election in Malta's single-chamber system. A shift could occur if Nationalist Party leader Alex Borg consolidates opposition support or if late voter turnout favors challengers in key districts, though current positioning shows limited movement toward alternatives.
