The contest for second place in Rio de Janeiro's Senate race remains fragmented, with no candidate establishing a clear edge amid a crowded field of center-right contenders. Recent polling through July showed Benedita da Silva (PT) holding a solid lead for the first seat, while Marcelo Crivella (Republicanos), Carlos Portinho (PL), Pedro Paulo (PSD), and others trailed in a tight pack often separated by single digits. Withdrawals, including Flávio Bolsonaro's presidential bid and Cláudio Castro's exit, have opened space and divided potential support among PL and allied names. With the October vote approaching and few fresh surveys available, traders reflect ongoing uncertainty over which contender can consolidate the anti-PT vote or gain momentum through alliances and campaign events.
