Recent soft US economic data, including July CPI rising 3.4% year-over-year with core at 2.5% and weaker retail sales plus consumer sentiment, have prompted traders to dial back expectations for Federal Reserve rate hikes this year, pressuring the DXY toward 99.5 near two-month lows. Markets now largely price a September hold at the 3.50%-3.75% federal funds target range amid subdued inflation and cooling growth signals, contrasting earlier 2026 pricing for hikes. Key near-term catalysts include the July FOMC minutes and Chairman Warsh’s Jackson Hole remarks, which could clarify the policy path versus the prior 9-3 divided vote. Geopolitical tensions around US-Iran relations add modest risk premium but have not offset the data-driven sentiment shift.
