Arizona’s 1st Congressional District remains a closely contested open seat after Republican incumbent David Schweikert retired to pursue the governorship. Democratic nominee Amish Shah, who narrowly lost the 2024 general election, secured his party’s nomination in the July 21 primary despite competition from candidates backed by national Democratic groups. Republican nominee Jay Feely, a former NFL player endorsed by President Trump, prevailed in his primary. The district voted for Trump by three points in 2024 and Biden by 1.5 points in 2020, producing ratings of toss-up or lean Democratic from outlets including the Cook Political Report and Decision Desk HQ. Recent forecasts project a narrow general-election margin on November 3, with trader consensus assigning Democrats the stronger position amid the open-seat dynamics and modest partisan tilt.
