**The market currently favors one magnitude 6.5+ earthquake worldwide during August 10–16 (56.5% implied probability), followed by two (28.5%).** This positioning stems primarily from the M7.4 event on August 10 near San José del Palmar, Colombia, in the South American subduction zone, which counts toward the total and aligns with typical weekly background rates of roughly one to two such events globally. USGS data indicate relatively quiet seismicity in the preceding week, with no prior M6.5+ quakes, and no active aftershock sequences or foreshock swarms currently exceeding the threshold. Activity concentrates along major plate boundaries such as the Pacific Ring of Fire, but recent analogs (including M6.3 events near the Kermadec Islands and Philippines in early August) have not produced clustering that would push counts higher. The four remaining days in the window carry a moderate probability of one additional event without evidence of elevated strain or model consensus for multiple large quakes. Traders price in the inherent variability of subduction-zone seismicity while discounting outliers like a rare swarm or undetected shallow event, keeping probabilities for three or more low. New USGS catalog updates or monitoring agency briefings could refine the tally before resolution.

The resolution source for this market is the United States Geological Survey (USGS) Earthquake Hazards Program, with the minimum magnitude set to 6.5 and the date parameters set to the relevant dates for this market's timeframe (https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/search/).
If an earthquake of substantial size has occurred within this market's timeframe but not yet appeared on the resolution source, this market may remain open until August 19, 2026, 11:59 PM ET, or until the earthquake in question otherwise appears on the resolution source. If such an earthquake has not appeared on the resolution source by that date, another credible resolution source will be used.
This market may not resolve until the timeframe of this market has concluded. If a qualifying earthquake has been recorded on the final day, this market may remain open for 24 hours to allow for revisions to the recorded magnitude. After 24 hours, this market will resolve according to the latest provided data.
