The Colorado Rockies, mired at 17-27 and fifth in the NL West with a lengthy road losing streak entering the series, evened their three-game set at PNC Park yesterday by erupting for 10 runs against Pittsburgh's Mitch Keller and bullpen after Paul Skenes' near-no-hitter in a 3-1 opener win. Today's rubber match pits Rockies prospect Chase Dollander (3-2, 3.35 ERA) against a Pirates staff leaning on rested arms amid fatigue from the high-scoring loss, with Pittsburgh (23-20, fourth NL Central) enjoying home-field edge and superior standings. Key absences include Rockies DH Kris Bryant (back, 60-day IL) and Pirates C Joey Bart (foot, 10-day IL); Mickey Moniak's recent surge adds Rockies lineup pop, while mild 67°F conditions with light winds favor standard play.
