Eurozone HICP inflation surged to a flash 3.0% in April 2026—the highest since September 2023—up from 2.6% in March, propelled by spiking energy costs amid Middle East tensions, driving Polymarket traders to price a 54.6% implied probability for annual 2026 inflation exceeding 3.1%. The ECB's second-quarter Survey of Professional Forecasters, released May 4, revised 2026 headline expectations upward to 2.7% from prior 1.8%, aligning with March staff projections of 2.6%, yet trader consensus reflects heightened persistence risks from sticky services inflation and subdued Q1 growth. Full April data due May 20 and May HICP flash on May 30 could further shape rate path expectations ahead of June ECB meeting.
