Elon Musk's March announcement of early public access for X Money in April remains unfulfilled as of mid-May 2026, with the digital payments wallet still confined to closed beta testing despite features like peer-to-peer transfers, Visa-backed debit cards, 6% yield on balances, cashback rewards, and QR-code payments. Backed by X Payments LLC's money transmitter licenses in over 40 U.S. states and a Visa partnership, the platform positions X as an everything app challenging Venmo and Cash App in social-financial integration. Senator Elizabeth Warren's April letter demanding transparency on risks and stablecoin potential has intensified regulatory pressure, while product chief Nikita Bier's recent crypto hints fuel expansion speculation; traders await official public rollout amid Clarity Act progress.
