Taylor Fritz, the defending Stuttgart champion and higher-ranked player with extensive grass-court success, faces 20-year-old Martin Landaluce in the round of 16. Landaluce secured his first tour-level grass win by rallying past qualifier Pierre-Hugues Herbert in the opener, while Fritz enters after an early Roland Garros exit but holds a strong record at this event, including a straight-sets final victory last year. Their first meeting pits Fritz’s serve-heavy game and experience against the Spaniard’s rising form on a fast surface where big servers typically hold an edge. Recent results show Fritz with mixed outcomes but clear surface suitability, while Landaluce builds momentum despite limited grass exposure.
