The July 2026 Employment Situation report, released August 7, serves as the dominant driver of current Polymarket odds for the August unemployment rate, with 4.1% holding the highest market-implied probability at 34.5% amid closely contested outcomes. Nonfarm payrolls contracted by 23,000 against consensus expectations for gains near 80,000, while the rate held at 4.1% and labor force participation fell to 61.4%. Traders appear to weigh this softening against the single-month nature of the data and potential stabilization signals in upcoming releases such as initial claims and ADP employment figures. This produces balanced pricing between 4.1% and 4.2% (27.0%), reflecting uncertainty over whether the recent weakness marks the start of a sustained uptrend in joblessness or a temporary fluctuation.
