Banxico's explicit forward guidance for maintaining the overnight interbank rate at its current 6.50% level drives the 85% market-implied probability of no change at the November 2026 decision. Following the final 25 basis point cut in May that concluded the easing cycle begun in 2024, the board held rates steady at its June and August meetings, citing easing headline and core inflation alongside persistent upside risks from geopolitical tensions, trade policies, and peso volatility. Recent data show inflation declining toward the 3% target by late 2027, with economic activity rebounding modestly in Q2 after Q1 contraction, reinforcing trader consensus around a prolonged pause. Key upcoming catalysts include the September and October meetings plus fresh inflation and GDP releases that could shift the balance of risks.

Increases or decreases of less than 25 bps will be rounded to 25 bps (e.g. an increase or decrease of 10 bps would be considered to be an increase or decrease of 25 bps). Increases or decreases of greater than 25 bps will be rounded to the nearest 25 bps and will be rounded away from 0 in cases of equidistance (e.g., an increase or decrease of 37.5 bps would be considered to be an increase or decrease of 50 bps).
