Banxico’s September 24 decision is priced for no change at 98.5% implied probability because the board has signaled a prolonged pause after cutting the overnight target rate to 6.50% in May and holding unanimously in June and August. Headline inflation has eased toward 3.26% while core remains stickier near 3.9%, supporting a wait-and-see stance even after the Fed’s 25-basis-point hike narrowed the policy differential. Weak domestic growth and a still-restrictive real rate further reduce the case for immediate adjustment. A material upside inflation surprise, sharper peso depreciation, or additional Fed tightening that compresses the spread further could still prompt reconsideration at the November or December meetings.

Increases or decreases of less than 25 bps will be rounded to 25 bps (e.g. an increase or decrease of 10 bps would be considered to be an increase or decrease of 25 bps). Increases or decreases of greater than 25 bps will be rounded to the nearest 25 bps and will be rounded away from 0 in cases of equidistance (e.g., an increase or decrease of 37.5 bps would be considered to be an increase or decrease of 50 bps). Displayed options of “Increase” or “Decrease” will include policy rate increases or decreases of any size.
