Gold trades near $4,630/oz as of late August 2026 after a 10%+ rally from early-month lows near $4,000, supported by fading odds of a September Fed rate hike (now ~30-40% per CME FedWatch) following softer jobs and inflation prints. Lower U.S. 10-year Treasury yields near 4.63%, a softer dollar, expanded Treasury bond buybacks, and renewed ETF inflows have reduced holding costs for the non-yielding metal while fiscal concerns over $40 trillion U.S. debt reinforce the debasement hedge. Geopolitical tensions involving Iran and elevated oil prices add safe-haven demand, alongside ongoing central bank purchases. Key near-term catalysts include the July PCE release and Fed Chair Warsh’s Jackson Hole remarks, with the September FOMC decision directly shaping the month’s price path.
