South Korea ETF EWY, tracking equities led by Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, has benefited from surging semiconductor exports that now comprise over 40% of total shipments, supporting upgraded 2026 GDP growth forecasts to 3.3% from prior 2.8% estimates. Recent $1.25 billion inflows into the fund reflect institutional positioning ahead of sustained AI-driven chip demand, with the ETF posting YTD returns exceeding 70% and trading near $179–182 amid daily volatility tied to global tech sentiment and won-dollar fluctuations. Heavy IT sector weighting near 49% amplifies sensitivity to export data and FOMC-adjacent risk appetite, while upcoming Bank of Korea policy signals and August semiconductor figures represent key near-term catalysts for price levels.
