Ron Nirenberg secured the Democratic nomination for Bexar County Judge after defeating incumbent Peter Sakai in the March 2026 primary by a wide margin, positioning him as the clear frontrunner against Republican Patrick Von Dohlen in the November general election. Traders assign Nirenberg a 93.5% implied probability due to his high name recognition from two terms as San Antonio mayor, a substantial fundraising advantage exceeding twelve times his opponent's cash on hand through mid-2026, and the county's consistent Democratic lean in local contests. Von Dohlen's limited resources and profile create significant structural barriers. Late developments such as unexpected turnout shifts, major campaign finance changes, or unforeseen controversies within the roughly ten-week window could still narrow the gap, though historical patterns favor the better-funded nominee with broad local visibility.
