Édouard Philippe holds a clear lead in trader assessments for the 2027 French presidential race due to consistent polling advantages within the centrist bloc, where he outperforms Gabriel Attal by several points in first-round scenarios and shows stronger head-to-head potential against Rassemblement National candidates. Philippe has positioned himself for an earlier rassemblement of center-right and centrist forces, advocating unity talks between November and February to avoid vote splitting that could benefit Marine Le Pen or Jean-Luc Mélenchon. Attal, who declared his candidacy in May 2026, has intensified ground efforts and public appearances through the summer but trails in surveys measuring the bloc's nominee. Recent MEDEF debate exchanges highlighted policy overlap on economics and immigration, underscoring that personal rivalry rather than substantive differences drives the contest. Both candidates have signaled openness to stepping aside based on early 2027 polling dynamics.
