Official National Weather Service and ensemble forecasts for Chicago on September 7 point to a high near 79–80°F, aligning with the tight market split between the 78–79°F and 80–81°F outcomes. Easterly flow off Lake Michigan continues to moderate daytime heating, keeping lakefront readings in the mid-70s while inland areas reach the upper 70s to low 80s under partly cloudy skies. This follows several days of 90°F-plus readings earlier in the month, as a cooler, more stable air mass has settled in. Slight model differences in cloud cover and wind speed will determine whether the daily maximum edges into the low 80s or stays capped near 79°F, with resolution hinging on the final observed reading at official stations.
