Former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, captured by U.S. forces in January 2026 and detained in Brooklyn, pleaded not guilty on January 5 to all counts in a superseding Southern District of New York indictment charging narco-terrorism conspiracy, narcotics trafficking, and weapons offenses. Pre-trial proceedings continue amid disputes over legal funding—resolved in late April when the U.S. permitted Venezuelan government payments—and motions to dismiss citing sanctions and immunity claims. With no trial date set beyond a June 30 hearing and the narcoterrorism statute's limited full-trial success history, traders price an 87.5% chance against conviction on every count, reflecting evidentiary hurdles and potential plea deals observed in co-defendant cases.
