The upcoming September 6, 2026 Landtag election in Sachsen-Anhalt drives the tight market on the next Ministerpräsident, with trader consensus reflecting uncertainty over seat shares, coalition arithmetic, and the post-election selection process in the state parliament. Incumbent Sven Schulze (CDU), who succeeded Reiner Haseloff in January 2026, leads the centre-right ticket in a continuation of the CDU-SPD-FDP “Deutschland-Koalition,” while AfD frontrunner Ulrich Siegmund tops polls near 41-42 percent. Other parties maintain a firm firewall against AfD participation, keeping coalition outcomes fluid even if the AfD emerges strongest. Recent debates and campaign focus on migration, internal security, and economic policy have sharpened contrasts between Schulze and Siegmund without shifting underlying polling trends. Lower-probability names such as Armin Willingmann (SPD), Susan Sziborra-Seidlitz (Greens), and Eva von Angern (Left) remain marginal unless broader negotiations collapse into novel alliances. Scheduled events through early September, including final rallies and any late polling shifts, could widen or narrow the gap ahead of the parliamentary vote for the premiership.
