Roy Lichtenstein’s market has maintained strong momentum through 2026, with estate dispersals achieving sell-through rates above 99 percent and average prices nearly doubling year-over-year amid sustained collector demand for works across mediums. The upcoming Sotheby’s Contemporary Curated sale on October 7, featuring roughly 140 pieces from the Lichtenstein collection with estimates reaching $1.5 million, serves as the immediate catalyst for “Green Head,” timed just before the Whitney Museum’s major retrospective opening in mid-October. Recent results, including multiple paintings exceeding low estimates and strong performance from Nudes and Interiors series pieces, underscore broad institutional and private interest that could influence bidding. Traders will watch for any last-minute estimate adjustments or provenance details ahead of the live auction.
