Recent hawkish remarks from Fed Chair Kevin Warsh at Jackson Hole on August 28 sharply lifted market-implied odds of a September rate hike to around 59.5%, reflecting trader consensus that persistent inflation warrants tighter policy. July PCE inflation held at 3.7% year-over-year—well above the 2% target—with core at 3.3%, amid lingering energy price pressures. The labor market has cooled modestly, with unemployment at 4.1% in July, yet this has not offset inflation concerns enough to shift expectations toward a hold. The September 15-16 FOMC meeting remains the key near-term catalyst, with incoming August CPI data likely to influence final repricing of the federal funds rate path.
