Recent soft July CPI data showing headline inflation at 3.4% year-over-year and core easing to 2.5% have bolstered trader expectations for a potential rate cut as the next policy move, though elevated underlying pressures near or above 3% keep the market-implied odds for a cut tightly balanced at 53.5%. The Federal Reserve held the federal funds rate steady at 3.5-3.75% following the July FOMC meeting amid a resilient labor market and lingering effects from prior tariffs and energy costs. With the September 15-16 meeting set to include updated economic projections, incoming inflation releases and employment figures will likely serve as key swing factors that could shift consensus toward either easing or a hike depending on whether price pressures continue to moderate.
