Juan Manuel Cerundolo, a lower-ranked Argentine baseline player suited to slow, high-bouncing conditions, faced a steep challenge despite his clay-court experience. Sinner opened with straight-sets dominance in round one, while Cerundolo advanced modestly. The Italian held a perfect head-to-head edge entering the contest. However, physical issues emerged mid-match with Sinner leading two sets to love and 5-1 in the third, prompting a medical timeout for cramps that shifted momentum decisively in the five-set battle.
