California's 14th Congressional District special election primary on June 16 features a top-two nonpartisan contest to fill the vacancy created by Eric Swalwell's departure to pursue the governorship. The heavily Democratic eastern Bay Area seat draws a field led by state Senator Aisha Wahab, who secured the California Democratic Party endorsement, alongside BART Board President Melissa Hernandez and other Democratic challengers plus Republican candidates including Wendy Huang. Recent candidate filings closed in April, with party resources and local endorsements shaping early positioning ahead of the short-term race that advances to an August 18 general if required. Voter registration favors Democrats by wide margins, and turnout patterns in the Alameda County-based district will determine which two advance.
