The recent no-confidence vote that ousted Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan on May 5 has fractured Romania’s governing coalition and elevated technocratic or independent figures in trader assessments for the next prime minister. President Nicușor Dan’s consultations with parliamentary groups emphasize the need for a stable pro-European majority capable of advancing fiscal reforms and unlocking EU funds, creating openings for non-partisan economists with international experience such as Delia Velculescu. Other contenders from major parties trail amid ongoing coalition negotiations, while the June 30 resolution timeline keeps focus on who can secure parliamentary confidence without triggering early elections. This setup reflects the market’s pricing of a closely contested process shaped by immediate fiscal pressures and institutional requirements for government formation.

To count for resolution, the individual must be formally appointed by the President of Romania and receive a vote of confidence from Parliament, resulting in the official formation of a new government. Any interim or caretaker Prime Minister who does not receive a parliamentary vote of confidence will not count toward the resolution of this market.
If no such Prime Minister takes office by December 31, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to “Other”.
The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from the Government of Romania; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
