The Republican Party maintains a leading position in Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District race, reflecting the district’s Republican lean and the advantages of an incumbent seeking re-election. Freshman Representative Jeff Hurd faces a June 30 primary challenge from Ron Hanks while Democratic contenders Alex Kelloff and Dwayne Romero compete in their own primary. Recent polling and fundraising data show Hurd holding a substantial cash advantage, though criticism over a Medicaid-related vote has energized the Democratic side. Nonpartisan ratings from outlets such as the Cook Political Report classify the seat as Solid or Likely Republican, consistent with the current trader consensus that places the Republican nominee well ahead for the November general election.
