Robert Luna, the incumbent Los Angeles County Sheriff, holds a commanding position in the November 2026 general election runoff against Alex Villanueva due to his 2022 victory by a 61-39% margin, broad institutional support from the Board of Supervisors, labor unions, and law enforcement associations, and stronger primary performance in June 2026 where he secured 44% compared to Villanueva’s 22%. Recent campaign finance reports show Luna maintaining a significant fundraising edge, while voter registration advantages in the Democratic-leaning county reinforce the trader consensus reflected in current market pricing. A late scandal, health-related withdrawal, or major policy failure on issues like deputy retention or public safety could still narrow the gap before ballots are cast on November 3.
