The Bank of Canada's decision to hold its 2.25% overnight rate at the September 2, 2026, meeting commands near-certain market-implied odds, reflecting the central bank's repeated pauses since late 2025 and forward guidance emphasizing patience. June 2026 CPI eased to 2.8% year-over-year from 3.2% in May, with core measures at multi-year lows, while the July Monetary Policy Report projected inflation returning to the 2% target by early 2027 amid a modestly improving but still below-capacity economy. Traders price in this path because recent data and communications show the BoC looking through temporary energy-driven pressures rather than shifting to hikes or cuts. A sharper rebound in headline inflation or labor-market strength could introduce modest repricing risk, though current indicators point to continuity.

Increases or decreases of less than 25 bps will be rounded to 25 bps (e.g. an increase or decrease of 10 bps would be considered to be an increase or decrease of 25 bps). Increases or decreases of greater than 25 bps will be rounded to the nearest 25 bps and will be rounded away from 0 in cases of equidistance (e.g., an increase or decrease of 37.5 bps would be considered to be an increase or decrease of 50 bps).
