National Weather Service forecasts for Austin on September 17 indicate a high near 98°F under partly to mostly cloudy skies, with a 20-30% chance of afternoon showers or thunderstorms that could suppress peak readings. Recent model runs show consensus around 96-99°F, influenced by easterly flow, elevated dew points near 75°F, and residual moisture limiting full insolation compared to the prior day's clearer, hotter conditions near 100°F. Historical September averages hover near 91°F, but persistent late-summer warmth supports the current range; traders appear to weigh the balance between modest cooling from cloud cover and convection versus sustained high temperatures absent widespread rain. Updated NWS briefings and afternoon observations will refine the final maximum.
