Recent polling and campaign activity position the Makerfield by-election, scheduled for 18 June 2026, as a tight contest between Labour’s Andy Burnham and Reform UK’s Robert Kenyon. Voters express frustration with national politics, cost of living, and local issues such as immigration and crime, boosting Reform’s appeal in this former Labour stronghold. Kenyon, a local candidate, benefits from Reform’s strong 2024 general election performance in the seat. Multiple constituency surveys show Burnham holding a narrow lead, leaving Kenyon as the clear alternative and positioning him as the likely runner-up. Smaller parties including the Conservatives, Greens, and Restore Britain are polling in low single digits, splitting opposition votes and reinforcing the two-horse dynamic reflected in trader pricing.
