The Federal Reserve’s unanimous 25-basis-point rate hike on September 16 to a 3.75–4% target range, coupled with projections for another increase by year-end and elevated PCE inflation around 3.7%, stands as the dominant driver of recent USD strength. This hawkish shift, the first tightening in over three years, has lifted Treasury yields and reinforced expectations for a higher-for-longer policy stance amid resilient growth and persistent price pressures. DXY traded near 100.22 following the decision, reflecting capital inflows attracted by wider rate differentials versus other major currencies. With the week of September 21 featuring only secondary releases such as unemployment claims and consumer sentiment alongside multiple Fed speaker appearances, markets will focus on any further signals about the terminal rate or inflation trajectory that could sustain or erode the dollar’s recent gains.
