Gold (XAU/USD) trades near $4,455 per ounce as of August 30, 2026, after retreating from three-month highs near $4,700 amid profit-taking and hawkish Fed commentary. Persistent July core PCE inflation at 3.7% has kept market-implied odds of a September rate hike around 33-34% and higher for year-end, elevating real yields and the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding bullion despite Treasury bond buybacks that supported recent gains. Strong central bank purchases and lingering geopolitical uncertainty provide structural bids, while the dollar index near 99 and upcoming August PMI, JOLTS, and ADP data releases will shape near-term rate expectations and volatility for the week of August 31. Trader sentiment reflects these competing monetary policy and demand dynamics.
