The early 2027 Oscars race for Best Original Score remains wide open, with trader consensus reflecting the nascent stage of the campaign for 2026 releases and the absence of decisive guild or critics' precursors. The Odyssey leads among priced contenders thanks to Ludwig Göransson’s innovative, non-orchestral approach—bronze gongs, ancient instruments, synthesizers, and James Blake vocals—paired with Christopher Nolan’s pedigree and the film’s strong critical and commercial reception. Dune: Part Three follows on Hans Zimmer’s franchise legacy, while Project Hail Mary benefits from Daniel Pemberton’s inventive, percussion-driven work and solid mid-year buzz. Other titles like Disclosure Day and The Black Ball sit lower amid competition from established composers and varying release timing. Key upcoming catalysts include final score mixes, fall festival screenings, and the November submission deadline, all of which could shift momentum before nominations.
