Dr. Anthony Fauci faces a Senate contempt referral after invoking the Fifth Amendment during 2026 COVID-19 testimony, testing the scope of a prior presidential pardon. Former Spanish Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero remains under formal investigation by Spain’s Audiencia Nacional on influence-peddling and money-laundering charges tied to a 2021 airline bailout, with court appearances and searches already conducted. These parallel probes into high-profile officials, occurring amid shifting executive and legislative priorities, represent the primary near-term catalysts traders weigh against procedural and evidentiary barriers before the January 2027 resolution date.
