Roberto Carballés Baena enters this Roland Garros qualifying first-round clash on outdoor clay as the clear favorite, buoyed by his extensive experience on the surface and prior Grand Slam appearances, including multiple main-draw runs at the French Open. The 33-year-old Spaniard has compiled a solid clay-court résumé despite a mixed 2026 record, while 22-year-old Lautaro Midon brings strong recent momentum from South American Challenger events where he posted a 13-9 mark and reached semifinals. Midon’s current ranking sits slightly ahead, yet Carballés Baena’s superior head-to-head history on red clay and comfort in high-stakes qualifying environments shape the market’s consensus. Potential rain delays and the fast turnaround in Paris qualifying add variables, but recent form and surface familiarity remain the dominant factors influencing trader positioning.
