The resolution source for this market will be information from Wunderground, specifically the highest temperature recorded for all times on this day by the Forecast for the Los Angeles International Airport Station once information is finalized, available here: https://www.wunderground.com/history/daily/us/ca/los-angeles/KLAX. To toggle between Fahrenheit and Celsius, click the gear icon next to the search bar and switch the Temperature setting between °F and °C. This market can not resolve to "Yes" until all data for this date has been finalized. The resolution source for this market measures temperatures to whole degrees Fahrenheit (eg, 21°F). Thus, this is the level of precision that will be used when resolving the market. Any revisions to temperatures recorded after data is finalized for this market's timeframe will not be considered for this market's resolution.Official National Weather Service observations from Los Angeles International Airport and downtown stations confirm the highest temperature on May 14 reached 68-69°F, driving trader consensus to near-certainty on this outcome amid persistent "May Gray" conditions. Thick stratocumulus clouds in the marine layer, fueled by cool ocean waters and strong northwest onshore flow, trapped cool moist air near the surface, preventing significant daytime heating after morning readings stalled around 63°F—well below the mid-May climatological average of 74°F. This aligns with historical patterns of coastal stratus advection during spring transitions. Scenarios challenging this include rare post hoc data audits revealing sensor errors or higher verified peaks at peripheral sites, though model ensembles and multi-station agreement make shifts unlikely; final daily climatological reports expected soon will solidify resolution.
