The S&P 500 has reached fresh record highs near 7,800 in mid-August 2026, supported by cooler-than-expected July CPI and PPI readings that reduced near-term Federal Reserve rate-hike odds and reinforced expectations for steady policy at the 3.50-3.75% federal funds target. Year-to-date gains of roughly 14% reflect resilient corporate earnings growth—projected above 20% for the full year—and leadership from technology and AI-related shares amid stable labor market data. Traders are monitoring the August 19 FOMC minutes and remaining August economic releases for signs of shifts in monetary policy or growth momentum that could influence month-end closing levels.
