South Korea ETF EWY has traded near $176–189 amid a sharp KOSPI correction, with the benchmark index falling over 3% on September 14 to close near 6,684 before easing further to 6,627 on September 15. The fund’s performance remains tightly linked to its roughly 55% weighting in SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics, both sensitive to HBM demand and AI infrastructure spending. Recent pressure stems from foreign and institutional selling, elevated oil prices above $100, rising Treasury yields, and uncertainty ahead of the September 15–16 FOMC meeting and its updated economic projections. Year-to-date gains exceed 80% but have reversed from June highs near $221, reflecting concentration risk and shifting global risk appetite.
