Recent Nvidia earnings and AI capex momentum lifted the S&P 500 to approximately 7,731 on August 28 amid a hawkish Jackson Hole address from Fed Chair Kevin Warsh that reinforced the 3.50-3.75% federal funds target. Traders now focus on the holiday-shortened week’s catalysts, including the August 31–September 1 G20 meetings, Tuesday ISM manufacturing PMI, and Friday’s August nonfarm payrolls, which will shape near-term rate path expectations ahead of the September 15–16 FOMC. Equity volatility remains compressed with the VIX near 14.4, while consensus year-end targets cluster around 7,900, reflecting earnings resilience offset by sticky inflation and labor-market data risks.
